DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Written by: qualityme1

Years ago, an acquaintance of ours had a small child who had severe psoriasis. He was infected from the top of the head to the toes. For those who are not familiar with this condition, psoriasis is a chronic condition of the skin that is identified with red and often scaly patches of skin. The condition of the skin of these young children was so severe that the mother had to remove him from the local school because he had become the object of the cruel jokes of the other children.

Knowing that I often dabbled in natural remedies, the mother approached me and asked me if there was anything that could be done about it. Since the doctors had declared that the child will have to endure the condition for the rest of his life, the anguished mother was about to give up. My recommended treatment was quite simple. It simply involved saturating the child with an extract of peppermint oil. The instructions to create this mixture were the following.

Mix a drop of peppermint oil along with five drops of vegetable oil. Shake the solution well and apply it to the infected area. Be sure to keep the area moist all the time. Continue this treatment until the infected areas are cleared and continue with an additional week of treatment. Stopping therapy before it is complete can be a reason for psoriasis to return. If the treatment is continued until the conclusion, the disease should not return. The entire process will take about six months.

For those who find it difficult to locate this oil, I have included instructions to do so. This oil is also an excellent remedy for a headache. Just put one or two drops on your temple and shortly after a headache will disappear. This peppermint oil can also be used in your favorite cooking recipes as well.

First, we must realize that all mint preparations begin their life from the leaves and flowering tops of the plant. These plant products contain a volatile oil of which the active component is known as menthol. There are several ways that peppermint can be taken. These include teas that are prepared from the dried leaves of the mint plant. We also have mint tincture, which is an alcohol-based solution that contains 10 percent peppermint oil and 1 percent peppermint extract. A tincture is usually prepared by adding 1 part of the peppermint oil to 9 parts of alcohol. Creams and ointments generally contain one to sixteen percent menthol.

The best time to start your oil extraction from your mint is before it starts to bloom. In general, the extract can be made from the entire visible plant, however, most people will use only the leaves to extract the important oils.

Get close to your mint plant and cut a small selection of stems. After harvesting their peppermint stems, remove the mint leaves and carefully store them in a measuring cup to determine how much mint they have. For example, suppose you harvest approximately 1/2 cup of mint. This is the perfect amount to make a container of one-pint oil or just DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub and shoploveforest.

Under cold water, rinse the mint leaves by squeezing the excess water with your hands. Remove the discolored or damaged sheets at this time. While doing this, you should bruise the leaves before placing them in a clean glass jar. Some people will place the leaves in a Ziploc bag and tap them lightly with a mallet to release the oils and then place the leaves and oil released into the alcohol. By bruising the leaves in this way, you help them release the valuable oil after placing it in the vodka.
